In October 1981, Kenny Everett returned to BBC Radio, this time on Radio 2, on Saturday from 11am–1pm. This lasted until 1983, when he was once again dismissed after making a rude joke about Margaret Thatcher: “When England was a kingdom, we had a king. When we were an empire, we had an emperor. Now we’re a country … and we have Margaret Thatcher”. This remark reportedly led to the non-renewal of his contract with BBC Radio 2.
HEE HEE HEE HEE
I will be at table E-16 at the sumptuous Bethesda North (that is to say, not actually Bethesda) Convention Center. Jason Little will also be there, sharing table space with me, and Jason’s work is not to be missed.
Because there are some people who have to grumble, a couple people have grumbled about this:
COOKIE MONSTER
First, hell– that’s how everybody should dance to Tom Waits songs, the carny-in-hell ones anyway. Second, the Muppets are subversive as hell. I wouldn’t have been ready for Tom Waits when he hove into earshot if it hadn’t been for them and other things like them. I will probably still be growling this song under my breath at the show.
Now that’s Old School. Note the purty illustrations.
This is how it’s done in old New Orleans.
Traditionally, the procession to the graveyard is somber, hymns and dirges. Going back to the church afterward is the dance music. It’s a heart-on-your-sleeve thing to do. It’s hard to dance when you’re grieving, but I hope many people find peace in it.
Come see me in lovely Charlotte, NC this weekend! I will be in the Alley at table AA-532. I will have the lovely Library and Voice for sale, loads of original art from Voice, and whatever else I can cram into my car sideways.
HEROES!
AND my first-ever appearance on home turf: The American Library Association’s big annual shindig is in New Orleans! And they’ve got an Artist’s Alley for comics this time! So off I go. Come on out! June 24-27th.
I drew a story for PANELS FOR PRIMATES, titled EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE.
Helmed by Troy Wilson, written by Mike Carey, drawn by me. My story is about a chimpanzee who became a Serbian folk hero, but PANELS FOR PRIMATES contains stories done by many amazing creators. Start here with Stuart Moore and Rick Geary!
Hi, everybody– BEA begins today in New York, and I’m not there. Got to stay home and draw.
So! Today, tomorrow, and Thursday, May 24-26th, there will be FREE SHIPPING on all orders (less than ten pounds), just as if you strolled up to me at a convention. Better, since, in most cases, you won’t have to pay for a hotel room to order from me. Enjoy ‘em!
And if you want ten pounds or more of my stock, drop me a line at lightspeedpress (at) gmail (dot) com!
YEAH, I’m gonna be in the sparkly new Artist’s Alley at ALA!

June 23rd-28th in New Orleans, which should be about at hot as the surface of Venus, but hey, I’m going home!
Come see me! It’s really my first official appearance in the South! I’ll be at booth 1651!
Hey out there! I am lacking print-quality scans of FINDER issues #35 and #37. I would like to include them in the second Library, due out in the fall. Will whoever owns the art for those two issues make them available for scanning? Failing that, will whoever’s got good, clean copies of the comics make THOSE available? Drop me a line at lightspeedpress(at)gmail.com, plis. I will send you sneak peeks in return. GOOD sneak peeks.
