These are examples of the sketch cards I’ve been including in the Dark Horse FINDER Libraries I have for sale. Trying too hard, probably, but they give me a chance to play with color media. They’re 4″x6″, marker and colored inks on Bristol. I try to include one per book, but if I get rushed for time, I may cut it back to one per order.
This is an illusion done with light on the side of a building– nothing new, just the drive-in theater screen of yesterday– but the illusion is brilliant, and makes the idea fresh again. Imagine a city full of this (watch me flee screaming to live in a hole on the beach like a geoduck forever after), and the people who live there.
New art up in the shop, including some with boobies, in a Malibu Barbie kind of way. Scary, scary girl.
I am making sour-cream sugar cookies for Halloween, and of course they’re all for family and friends, because otherwise I might be accused of attempting to poison the neighborhood. Man, I remember the Fudge Lady in our neighborhood– she handed out homemade fudge wrapped in saran wrap. It beat the holy hell out of Necco wafers. Anyway, I have cookie cutters in the shapes of skulls and butterflies, and I am making a flying skeleton out of Sculpey. Because I am a big big big nerd for Halloween.
Click on that thing on the right that says BOOKS and you will see that on my Shopify site I am selling the Dark Horse collections for a little while. I don’t have very many. I will sign ‘em and do a little sketch card for each, and if it’s a prezzie and you want it to look like it came from Jaeger, I’ll wrap it up ‘dragged this around the bush in a gunnysack’ gift style.
Here’s my shop with new pages from DARK HORSE PRESENTS. Unsold pages from DHP #1 are now back in their beds. The remaining two pages from DHP #2 will still be up until sometime-ish tomorrow. Somebody buy these fancy vistas with the crappy perspective, I’m killing myself on ‘em.
Added two more pages of original art from FINDER: 3RD WORLD, currently serializing in DARK HORSE PRESENTS, to the Etsy store.
Here’s how it goes: I don’t want a massive pile of pages up at any one time. Any given page will have two weeks to sell. As pages sell or are pulled after their two-week tour, they will be replaced. The total number of pages for sale will never be greater than ten.
So if a train leaves El Paso heading north, and a car leaves Denver heading east, who gets spaghetti first? And who killed Mrs White with the cheese grater in the oubliette? And does anybody want the rough pencilled pages, and would they pay more for a finished page if it was accompanied by its corresponding pencilled page?
Test on Monday.
Things are distressingly quiet here at Muppet Labs, so I have time to stick some art up for sale. Here’s a cover:
Pretty, pretty color art. And hereare the first eight pages of 3RD WORLD, the story running in DARK HORSE PRESENTS.
3RD WORLD will be a full-sized book of All-Jaeger All The Time once it’s done. I think I have it set up so that if you buy more than one page, you aren’t charged extra, but I cain’t figga out how to add to the basic storefront that shipping is high because I don’t trust art to any company but FedEx.
Free shipping! Everything goes flat rate so I won’t die broke, but everybody who wanted my books after I ran out, get ‘em now.
Next week I’ll start posting about the stuff I found at SPX. SO MUCH GOOD STUFF
My object in living is to unite
My avocation and my vocation
As my two eyes make one in sight.
Only where love and need are one,
And the work is play for mortal stakes,
Is the deed ever really done
For Heaven and the future’s sakes.
Robert Frost. It seems a bit much to imply that if you love your work and manage to do it for a living that you have made your beachhead on the shores of eternity or anything, but Frost is a romantic poet, after all. Nothing less than Mount Parnassus will do.
