This is how it’s done in old New Orleans.
Traditionally, the procession to the graveyard is somber, hymns and dirges. Going back to the church afterward is the dance music. It’s a heart-on-your-sleeve thing to do. It’s hard to dance when you’re grieving, but I hope many people find peace in it.

A jazz funeral parade in Norway has a sort of surreal quality to it, but the somber, tearful faces in the parade and at the church buried all differences of location, language and ethnicity.
