No, she has it in all of her previous appearances. It's almost certainly her comm link to Jack's comm center -- she talks into it as she narrates what she's doing and where she is. Sometimes she drops it when she needs her hands for other things, but she always picks it back up again. If Kemet's clumsy speaking-horn (with chest-straps, yet!) is a first-gen device, Hauhet's is one of the most recent ones. Pinya's been improving her tech skills pretty rapidly, I would guess, but has not distributed the results equally. Or maybe Jack and Kemet are just steampunk fans?

And they gave her a wee rite-of-passage-pendant too.

That is one of the reasons that this is an absolutely exquisite page. Not only is it visually beautiful, but it is SO sensual. I can practically feel the rubbery warm skin and pointy elbows of that baby thing, and I can imagine what it smells like.
