For that matter, have we seen them do anything that indicates that have more than a childlike intelligence?

Yes, we have. They have at least average adult human intelligence and temperament. Frex: Vary's friend Ollie isn't stupid, although I seem to recall that he's illiterate, because they aren't given any sort of education.

Given that they’re constructs, it’s possible, even likely, that they’re designed to be mentally inferior, to require care while being capable of performing tasks.

I was leafing through Sin-Eater V1, and noticed the raccoon-morph zookeeper. The endnotes say that he was originally bred to be an accountant, which is why he has five digits on his hands instead of the much more typical four for constructs. He's forbidden to leave the grounds of the zoo.

They're basically chattel slaves.

Have we seen any of the furry constructs (or anthropomorphs, I suppose, since not all of them are furry) even use the term?

For that matter, have we seen them do anything that indicates that have more than a childlike intelligence? (serious question, I haven't read every volume. It's possible I missed something).

Given that they're constructs, it's possible, even likely, that they're designed to be mentally inferior, to require care while being capable of performing tasks. Now, how messed up is that?

One of the first times we saw Jaeger (after he killed three guys in a bar) was mugging a construct for his work equipment, mocking him the while, and quite possibly getting him shitcanned from his job. Jaeger, we should remember, has done shit _way_ worse than Hauhet, way worse than what Rachel did getting those two Ascian guys murdered, which doesn’t make what she did the slightest bit more okay, because identity group categories are kind of nonsense when it comes to ethics. “Ain’t no such thing as indigenous – it all comes down to push and shove over territory.”

Some really terrifying conservative movements will have fewer converts if we all get clearer on the fact that some underclass folks will act like bastards simply because they're bastards, same as with the rich, or if the rich can't help it either, who's oppressing them? Where does oppression start in the first place?

Humans aren’t all beast, memetic evolution has been catching up genetic evolution for quite some time now (humans are incredibly special maybe in how fast that evolution is happening, with no clear idea how far we can go or what we can become because of it) – but everyone’s a bit brutal simply on account of being brutes, we often don’t need to be brutalized beforehand.

There, that rant was probably out of the blue and a little silly, but I did quote Jaeger during it, so I feel okay.

Really terrifying conservative movements will have far fewer converts if progressives get a lot clearer on the point that some underclass folks will act like bastards simply because they are, just like many of the rich do, and not because the rich bastards are making them do it. Humans aren't all beast, memetic evolution has been catching up genetic evolution for quite some time now in our special species instance (and we don't know what knew ideas might evolve or how far they'll eventually take us) - but everyone's a bit brutal just on account of being brutes, we often don't need to be brutalized beforehand.

As for no one in this world respecting the constructs, Hauhet is not no one.

Where has Hauhet shown respect? She's shown interest, and perhaps a certain outraged compassion. But Speed even says "Hauhet saw an animal alone, and in pain".

An animal, not a person.

Or something similar to when a oppressed class reclaims the use of denigrating terms that are normally used against them.

Have we seen any of the furry constructs (or anthropomorphs, I suppose, since not all of them are furry) even use the term? It's not anything like that.

Cute, Owlmirror.

I do have a deep appreciation for the cute.

As for no one in this world respecting the constructs, Hauhet is not no one. But you bring up a great point that Hauhet is herself in a low class with the Ascians. So it's interesting how she uses the term "fuckskunk". I think we're watching a process here. Or something similar to when a oppressed class reclaims the use of denigrating terms that are normally used against them.
